    SPEECH (TRANSCRIPT)

RUDIGER: (SEQ. 1) "It is true that significant progress has been made with regard to decolonisation, one of the main concerns of the non-aligned movement. There remains, however, the solution of the last major colonial problem in Africa, and that is Namibia. That is the purpose of the eighth emergency special session of the General Assembly, starting today. There are other regional situations tending to accumulate tension, in Africa in the Middle East, in Afghanistan and in Latin America. Here, too, the principles of non-alignment should by no means be set aside in the efforts to the international community to resolve the problems involved."

WALDHEIM: (SEQ. 3) "Mr. Chairman, we tend to take the progress made thus far for granted. However, I need hardly point out to you the many (INDISTINCT) in the world situation. You know very well that we are passing through a most difficult phase in international affairs. Explosive conflicts versus violence and terrorism have become endemic. There is a dangerous drift towards new-grown suspicion and discord. The basis of detente has suffered severe setbacks, and the cause of disarmament is one of the first victims -- we have to recognise this. The world's military and economic regulations are under increasing strain. The international dialogue on economic and development issues have yet to bear fruit in global negotiations. Indeed, the very cause of development is in jeopardy."

MVESHIHANGE: (SEQ. 5) "The whole merger of imperialism, apartheid in South Africa, and the Zionists in Israel, have now been fully integrated into the military and strategic umbrella of NATO, and the so-called security alliance. But we in the national liberation movements, and no doubt all the members of this movement, will not be deflected from our national causes, but end injustice, oppression and exploitation everywhere in the world. Let us stand together in the fight, hand in hand, to bring about the full realisation of the defence forces for which this movement is famous. And in doing this, let us mobilise world public opinion in repairing the resources to aid the embattled countries like Angola, as well as the front-line states in Southern Africa and the Middle East. The struggle continues. Victory is certain, (INDISTINCT)."
