REPORTER: "YOU KNOW YOU DON'T WORRY ABOUT THOSE TERRIBLE STORIES THAT ARE COMING UP, I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY DREAM THEM FROM?"

FRAZIER: "WELL IT'S KIND OF BOTHERING ME, I MEAN, IN THE SENSE OF THINKING THAT REALLY IT'S CONCERNING THE PEOPLE, YOU KNOW I MEAN, BECAUSE THEY GET THE BAD RUMOUR THAT THING'S LIKE THAT ARE HAPPENING TO ME. AND THEY GOT ROUND TO MY FAMILY, AND THEY GET CALLS, AND THEY ALL GET THEM UPSET. I HAD MY MOTHER LIKE UPSET YOU KNOW FOR THE LAST PAST TWO WEEKS YOU KNOW, AND SHE'S WORRYING ALL ABOUT ME, AND DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR YOU KNOW FOR THE PEOPLE, THE PUBLIC, REALLY FOR THE GUYS TO BE WRITING THINGS LIKE THAT ABOUT A MAN WHEN IT'S NOT TRUE."

Background: A NEW YORK STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION PHYSICIAN, DR. EDWIN A. CAMPBELL HAS DENIED SAYING THAT WORLD HEAVY WEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION JOE FRAZIER MIGHT HAVE A HEAD INJURY FOLLOWING HIS 15-ROUND BOUT WITH MUHAMMAD ALI AT MADISON SQUARE GARDENS.

FRAZIER ENTERED HOSPITAL IN PHILADELPHIA ON MARCH 15, A WEEK AFTER THE TITLE FIGHT, SUFFERING FROM HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. HIS PERSONAL PHYSICIAN, DR. JAMES C. GIUFFRE, SAID YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) THAT FRAZIER HAD THE AILMENT KNOWN AS "ATHLETE'S KIDNEY", WHICH WAS NOT UNCOMMON AMONG SWIMMERS, BASKETBALL PLAYERS, BOXERS AND RUNNERS. THE BLOOD PRESSURE WAS A BY-PRODUCT OF THIS CONDITION, HE SAID.

IN VIEW OF CONTINUING SPECULATION ON FRAZIER'S HEALTH AND FUTURE CAREER, WE ARE SERVICING THIS INTERVIEW HE RECORDED WITH A LOCAL SPORTS REPORTER IN PHILADELPHIA ON WEDNESDAY (24 MARCH).
