Background: In Australia, just as America called a fresh halt to the bombing of North Vietnam, demonstrations erupted against the massive air attacks. Mobs broke windows at the offices of Pan American Airways and the United States Trade Centre in Sydney. And a big night rally against the bombing drew thousands to the steps of the Sydney Town Hall.

Police are investigating the incidents at the American trade and airline offices. Bricks were hurled through the windows and notes left attacking the American bombing assault.

At Sydney Town Hall a Labor Senator Arthur Gietzelt called for a seizure by the Australian government of all land owned by American companies as a measure to stop the bombing.

The demonstration called on President Nixon to stop the attacks immediately, sign a peace treaty and withdraw all American armed forces from South East Asia.

Senator Gietzelt also urged unionists to refuse to unload American ships, refuel American planes and repair any American equipment. He wants American goods and films boycotted.

(The Seamen's Union is now deciding whether to go ahead with a planned action of non-co-operation with American shipping.)
Senator Gietzelt was supported by churchmen including the Reverend Ted Noffs, head of Sydney's Wayside Chapel, who told crowds that the bombing was an affront to humanity.
