Background: Five thousand recruits to the Thai armed forces paraded in Bangkok yesterday (Monday). They marched through the plaza and lined up for inspection by the Prime Minister, Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn.

During the ceremony, they took the oath pledging their allegiance to the Kingdom of Thailand and Marshal Thanom, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces.

The Prime Minister warned again of the dangerous situation on Thailand's borders. He told the recruits that it was their duty to safeguard their country against external aggression.
