Background: The rolling ranges of the Yao Shan Mountains in the southern part of the People's Republic of China are beautiful and abundant in natural resources.
The Iso people, one of China's national minorities, have a population of 740 thousand, part of who live in the Yao Shan Mountains. Economic and cultural conditions were extremely backward here before liberation because the reactionary ruling class carried out a policy of discrimination and oppression against the national minorities. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China there have been marked improvements in the political, economic and cultural spheres.
Seven highways have been built on the Yao Shan Mountains with help from the state. Terraced fields have appeared thanks to the collective strength of the people's communes. There were no schools on Yao Shan before liberation; today, all the communes have primary schools. The younger generation of the Yao nationality will grow up to be cultured working men and women.
Electricity has been made available for the Yao Shan mountain dwellers. All the people's communes have telephones and broadcasting centres.
The hard-working Yao people land a very happy life in ??? All the communes are served by a number of supply-and-marketing stores. Living standards are going up steadily.
Through the collective strength of the people's communes, the Yao Shan Mountains are becoming more and more abundant and beautiful with each passing day.
