SYNOPSIS: A crowd gathered for the funeral of murdered union leader Julian Moreno in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. Senior Moreno was an official of the Metalworkers' Union and a Mayoral candidate for the March elections. Police were out in force to control the crowd.
Julien Moreno was the fourth Peronist to be murdered since former President Juan Peron left Argentine in mid-December. In less than two months Argentina will have a General Election, the first since 1963. But this was a day of grief for supporters of Julien Moreno.
Senor Moreno was machine-gunned in the streets of Buenos Aires--the same streets where his supporters showed their respect by joining the funeral procession. A guerrilla group profession to support former President Peron has claimed responsibility for the murder. The group--in a communique issued to the press--claimed Senior Moreno was a traitor to the Peronist cause.
