Background: On the National Day, June 24th., the King of Thailand, Phumipol Aduldet, performed the ceremony of opening the new Parliament, in accordance with ancient customs and the Constitution.
This is a colourful occasion, with the Royal Guardsmen accompanying His Majesty. The Ministers of the Crown welcomed the King and followed him into the Parliament Chamber. There are two parts to the Thailand Parliament--the elected representatives of the people and the appointment members, selected by the Crown.
From the opening of the session until the end of the year the Parliament will consider the usual matter of government, such as bills and proposed laws submitted by the Government and Opposition members.
