Background: The press preview of the Sixth International Watch and Jewellery Trade Fair, organised by Britain's National Association of Goldsmiths, was held in London's Cafe Royal, Sept 8. The Fair will provide trade buyers and retailers with a comprehensive display of new designs, inventions, fashions and novelties by leading craftsmen. It is divided into three sections - Horological, Fine jewellery, and costume jewellery.
Items displayed included battery-powered electric watches, jewelled and golden cigarette lighters - including one whose very screws are gold, priced at GBP250 - cultured pearls, and the Marquis Diamond, worth GBP10,000.
Sept 12 sees the formal opening of the Fair; trade buyers will be allowed entrance at all times and the public at specified periods. And in case anyone has evil designs on the Fair's valuable exhibits, security precautions include guard dogs.
