Background: Anti-Common Market campaigners marched through London in a noisy torch-light procession on Saturday (January 19th) -- the eve of the second anniversary of the signing of the treaty of Britain's accession to the European Economic Community.

The estimated 1,500 marchers had gathered from all over Britain. They marched to the residence of Prime Minister Edwards Heath, where their Chairman, Air Vice-Marshal Don Bennett, handed in a letter calling on the Government to end Britain's common Market membership. Mr. Heath was the main architect of Britain's entry and many of the marchers shouted 'Traitor Heath'.

There has recently been a revival of anti-Common market feeling in the United Kingdom. On the first anniversary of Britain's full membership on the first of January, the Get Britain Out Campaign issued a new manifesto. It rejected the Community's two principles of economic preference for members and of a community governing body, claiming they were 'striking at the heart of our freedom'.
