Background: Israel beat Japan in a preliminary match of the World Cup series in Seoul on wednesday (16 May).
The match was the second on the opening day of the Asian Group A which will decide one team from seven to play either Australia, or Iran, for a place in next year's World Cup finals.
20,000 spectators watched a furious Israeli assault result in a 1-0 lead over Japan in the 6th minute 22 minutes later Japan split open the hard tackling Israeli defence in a three-man move that resulted in an equalising goal. The score stayed at 1-1 up to the end of the first half.
A Japanese blunder early in the second half resulted in another Israeli goal, again scored by bushy-haired winger Mosh Nana.
Although Japan suffered a defeat, their team manager later said that he was pleased with his team's display. Israel is World Cup class team of long standing. In 1970 they got through to the World Cup finals in Mexico.
