    Background: THE IVORY COAST MERCHANT NAVY RECEIVED ON WEDNESDAY ITS SEVENTH CARGO SHIP. THE SHIP, CALLED KHOROGO, WAS THE FORMER TEN-YEAR-OLD 9,000 TON FRENCH VESSEL LEONCE VIELJEUX. THE NEW SHIP WAS RE-NAMED AT A CEREMONY IN ABIDJAN, IN THE PRESENCE OF SEVERAL OFFICIALS, BY MRS. COULIBALY, WIFE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC COUNCIL.

    THE KHOROGO BELONGS TO SITRAM, AN IVORY COAST SHIPPING LINE WHICH OWNS THREE OTHER SHIPS. ALL THE CARGO SHIPS BELONGING TO THE IVORY COAST ARE ENGAGED IN TRADE BETWEEN EUROPE AND AFRICA. THE NEW VESSEL WILL BE MAINLY USED FOR BANANA EXPORTS.

    AT THE DOCKSIDE CEREMONY, M. KOUYATE, THE CHAIRMAN OF SITRAM, GAVE A SHORT SPEECH. THE GUESTS INCLUDED M. ALCIDE KAKCOU, THE IVORY COAST COAST MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS AND M. JACQUES RAPHAEL-LEYGUES, THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR.
