Background: The Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, has arrived in the Philippines for a five day unofficial visit.
As Mr. Lee stepped from his plane he was greeted by President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines and other leading Government officials. During his visit to the Philippines Mr. Lee is expected to hold lengthy talks with President Marcos on the subject of bilateral economic agreements.
Trade between the two countries has increased by about forty percent a year since 1967, with the increased trade balance favouring the Philippines.
Diplomatic sources in the Philippines said the discussions would also involve Mr. Lee's proposed conference of member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations with the aim of increasing economic bonds within the Association.
