Background: The ailing Iman of Yemen accompanied by 16 veiled wives and members of his suite left Naples by ship August 4 for the Yemen.
Police took exceptional precautions to prevent photographers end newsmen from approaching the Iman's party as they boarded the Italian liner 'Sydney'. But there was one incident: a member of the Iman's bodyguard drew a pistol on one photographer penetrating the police cordon. Several weeks earlier, another bodyguard slashed the hand of a photographer trying to snap pictures of the harem.
The Iman, the most colourful visitor to Italy this season, was returning to Yemen after medical treatment in Rome. He was treated for a variey of undisclosed ailments. Through reported fully recovered, he was bodily supported at the dockside by his aides.
He was due to return to the yemen last month in a charter plane but after an hour in the air he returned to Rome as he found the flight was effecting his heart.
There was another incident when the ship put in at Messina Sicily August 4 - a bodyguard attempted to slash an intruding Italian photographer with a scimitar.
