Background: In New Delhi on Friday (25 August), the righting Jana Sangh party staged another demonstration -- and the biggest yet -- against rising prices.
The demonstrators marched through the streets of New Delhi towards Parliament and scuffles began when they reached the first line of a police cordon. Police used teargas to break up the demonstration. More than 400 people were arrested -- most of them for defying an order prohibiting gatherings of more than five people in the area.
About fifty people, including 34 policemen, were injured during the demonstration.
