Background: The new Rumanian Ambassador to the Central african Republic presented his credentials to President Bokassa in Bangui in December.
The ambassador, accompanied by his aide, reviewed an honour guard of troops and naval personnel and saluted the guard commander, Lieutenant Otto.
Then, at the Government Palace, the ambassador was announced by the Protocol Officer before meeting President Bokassa.
The ambassador greeted the President and then officially presented his credentials. A number of high government officials watched the proceedings, including military and judicial leaders.
President Bokassa and the Rumanian ambassador then toasted each other at the finish of the presentation ceremony.
The presence of the ambassador was a result of President Bokassa's visit to Rumania in July. During the visit, in which a number of high-level talks took place, it was decided that the two countries should become diplomatically closer.
During the presentation ceremony, the two men discussed the roles of their two countries and touched upon the Central African Republic's political and economic situation. They agreed upon the fundamental principles of international justice and peace and non-interference in the affairs of other nations.
