TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 2: PETREE: "Most importantly, they place this body which should be dedicated to the search for peace, in the position of rejecting a peace treaty between sovereign neighbours. Instead of defining new areas where conciliation and negotiation might be possible, they are divisive in intent and in practice. They mix important political matters with the issuance of postage stamps and occasions for propaganda. They endorse the recommendations of the special unit and the one-sided committee, both of which my government opposes. Mr president, in the framework for peace, negotiated at Camp David, Israel and Egypt agreed to enter into negotiations with representatives of the Palestinian people, to achieve legitimate palestinian rights. My government remains a full partner in these negotiations, and fully committed to their goals."
SEQ. 3: BLUM: "Such resolutions are detrimental to the cause of peace. They are detrimental also to the cause of the United Nations. They are harmful to all the people of the Middle East, including the Palestinian Arabs. These tribulations are in fact only prolonged by the hostilities and machinations which have also inspired the drafts before us. The authors of these drafts rely on an arithmetical majority, always at their disposal in the general assembly to carry through any and every Arab proposition against Israel, out of either blind acceptance, extraneous interests. or sheer expediency.
SEQ. 4: SALIM: "The result of the vote is as follows; seventy-five in favour. Thirty-three against, thirty-seven abstentions. The draft of the resolution is therefore adopted.

Background: The United Nations has just completed its second annual observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. And the Observance concluded with the General Assembly voting on two important resolutions covering the Palestinian question. They related to the Camp David accords and P.L.O. participation in future negotiations.
SYNOPSIS: Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmed Esmat Abdul Meguid said that his government objected to resolution forty-four which among other things declared that the Camp David Accords have no validity in determining the future of the Palestinian people and Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967.
Meguid also objected to resolution forty-three which called for the participation of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation in all conferences on the Middle East. However both resolutions were adopted. Israeli Representative Yehuda Blum spoke after U.S. representative Richard Petree and Assembly President Salim A. Salim of Tanzania announced the voting results on resolution forty-three.
