Background: A new multi-purpose warship has just been handed over to the Nigerian Navy. She's a 600-ton corvette, built in the dockyards at Portsmouth, the British south-coast port.
The ship, the NNS Dorina, carries five guns and can be fitted with anti-submarine weapons. A group of Nigerian sailors have been undergoing training aboard for several months.
There's air-conditioned accommodation on the Dorina for an admiral, a captain, six other officers and 59 ratings. The ship has a top speed of 25 knots and a cruising range of 3,500 nautical miles.
