Background: A Paris court today (Monday) postponed until next week its ruling on a Japanese Government request for the extradition of Korean businessman, Mr Kim Tong Song. Mr Kim has been accused of defrauding a Tokyo bank of 1,900 million yen(about 2.2 million pounds sterling).

The businessman had been remanded in custody in Paris two weeks ago on the basis of an international arrest warrant cabled from Tokyo.

Mr Kim said at today's hearing that he was innocent. His Lawyer also claimed that the case could have a political nature. The court announced that it would give its verdict on the extradition request on Monday, October 26.
