Background: The British tanker 'Hullgate' was involved in a collision in the English Channel with the Danish Liquified Gas carrier 'Ida Hoyer' on 9th. April, 1971. Her cargo was subsequently pumped off onto another British tanker, the 'Esso Woolston'. A boom was used to try and present further oil from spreading away from the damaged tanker while the operation was in progress.
