S/V Paul O'Dwyer being interviewed
REPORTER: What is the American attitude to this claim?
O'DWYER: Well, I've got an announcement from the State Department concerning their view with respect to the lawsuit in which I'm involved. I got it before I came away. It is as follows:
"The United States government recognises the right of Iran to bring legal action in the country of the United States to account for assets within the custody or control of the former Shah, which may be judged to belong to the National Treasury of Iran".
I think that is at least a crystallization of previous statements made, and I think it is a completely new approach ...
REPORTER: There are thoughts that maybe you represent someone in the United States who is friendly to Iran, that you maybe seeing the hostages - is there any possibility of that?
O'DWYER: I don't know. I can't tell you what will happen. I haven't gone deeply into it here yet. I haven't had an opportunity. People are otherwise engaged, you know, there's an election going on, and I know what that means.
