Background: The 21st all-Nigeria Open Table Tennis Championships played in Lagos over the weekend last week reached world standards with the participation of a strong team from the People's Republic of China. A challenge match was played on Saturday (17 July) between the Chinese team and Nigeria, with the Chinese winning most of the events.

SYNOPSIS: The Mobolaji Johnson sports centre in Lagos saw same outstanding table tennis last Friday when a Nigerian national team played a team from the People's Republic of China. The Chinese, led by world No. 2 player Li Fujung, were giving nothing away.

But Nigerian couple in the mixed coubles, Okwocha and Nwaka won this match by 3 close games to one.

The international was played as a challenge match during the 21st Nigerian Open table tennis championships, and lifted the competition sometimes to great heights. The Chinese as expected won the men's doubles, but the women's singles went to Nigeria. All in all it was a fine display of table tennis.
