After having to wait for three days because of floods at Riyan, the RAF route station in the Eastern Aden Protectorate, the expedition left Aden for Socotra on Sunday, December 6 in an RAF Beverley. The plane had to call at Riyan, near Mukulla port, to pick up four members of the Hadhrami Bedouin Legion who accompanied the expedition

NOTE: As there are no regular flights to Socotra, Sgt Grimwood's film was brought back by the RAF. He had very little time to complete his film before the Beverley took off again, and the notes he sent are not absolutely clear. A contact sheet of some stills taken at the same time are included for identification purposes.
