TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 2: MR. GONDO: "WE HAVE PUT OUR CASE TO THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER AS CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE. WE HAVE MADE IT QUITE CLEAR THAT WE, OF THE UNITED PEOPLE'S PARTY, AS WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, WOULD NOT BE A PARTY TO A GOVERNMENT WHICH WOULD DECLARE INDEPENDENCE UNILATERALLY. WE HAVE MADE IT QUITE CLEAR, AS WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, THAT WE FEEL THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR RHODESIA AND THE ONLY INDEPENDENCE THAT CAN BE CONSIDERED LASTING SHOULD COME ABOUT BY THE AGREEMENT OF ALL THE PEOPLE OF RHODESIA. WE FEEL THAT THE SOLUTION CAN BE OBTAINED - AND THIS PARTICULAR AGREEMENT CAN BE OBTAINED - BY CALLING FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE OF ALL THE PEOPLE OF RHODESIA. REPRESENTING THE VARIOUS POLITICAL OPINIONS."

MR. WILSON ALSO MET DR. PALLEY - AND AFTERWARDS DR. PALLEY WAS INTERVIEWED:

SEQ. 3: INTERVIEWER: "DR. PALLEY, AS THE ONLY WHITE ON THE OPPOSITION BENCHES IN PARLIAMENT YOU MET MR. WILSON THIS AFTERNOON. I WONDER IF YOU COULD GIVE US SOME INDICATION OF WHAT TRANSPIRED?"

DR. PALLEY: "WELL, WE DISCUSSED ALL THE PROBLEMS - THE VERY DIFFICULT PROBLEMS OF THIS COUNTRY: THE QUESTION OF A UNILATERAL DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, PROBLEMS FLOWING FROM THE CONSTITUTION AND MATTERS OF THAT SORT."

INTERVIEWER: "DO YOU SEE MR. WILSON'S VISIT TO RHODESIA AS A MOVE IN THE POWER POLITICS OF THE WORLD - OR IS THIS A VERY DEFINITE AND SINCERE ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE RHODESIA QUESTION?

DR. PALLEY: "I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT MR. WILSON IS VERY SINCERELY TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THIS COUNTRY."

INTERVIEWER: "DR. PALLEY, IN THE EVENT OF A U.D.I. HOW WOULD YOU STAND?"

DR. PALLEY: "I WOULD STAND AS I ALWAYS HAVE: IN FAVOUR OF CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT AND STRONGLY AGAINST ANY REBELLION."

INTERVIEWER: "WOULD YOU BACK THE GOVERNMENT?"

DR. PALLEY: "I COULDN'T BACK ANY ILLEGAL OR UNCONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT."
