    Background: The third Session of the International Congress of Africanists was opened in Africa Hall, Addis Ababa, by Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia on Monday (December 10).

    The Emperor told the 300 people attending the Congress that Africans should take a greater part in the study and research than they did at present.

    The main theme of the Congress, an organisation of scholars from all over the world whose work has relevance to Africa in any academic field, is the economic, social, political, cultural and scientific development of Africa.

    A special committee is to discuss the compilation and publication of an sight-volume history of Africa.

    SYNOPSIS: In Addis Ababa's Africa Hall, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia opened the third session of the International Congress of Africanists on Monday. The Congress is an organisation of scholars from all over the world whose work has any relevance to Africa in any academic field.

    Over three-hundred people attended the meeting whose theme was the economic, social, political, cultural and scientific development of Africa. The Congress is due to and on December the eighteenth.

    Among the projects being discussed is the compilation and publication of an eight-volume General history of Africa. This is to be considered by a special committee.

    Emperor Hails Selassie told the delegates to the Congress that Africans should take a greater part in the study and research of their continent than they did at present.

    Organisation of the Congress is being split into sectional meetings on various areas and various subjects such as Economic development, political development, and historical development. the topics being discussed range from the development of African literature to urbanisation in Africa.
