Background: Chad Foreign Minister, Major Wadal Ardelkader Kamougue, called last week's attempt to assassinate President Felix Malloum "an act of despair". Major Kamougue was speaking in the Chad capital, N'Djamena, on Thursday (15 April) to a group of foreign diplomats and representatives of international organisations.
He had called the meeting to offer his government's apologies for the attack.
Six people were killed an 72 injured in the assassination attempt the previous Tuesday (13 April). President Malloum was unharmed.
The attack came when three grenades were thrown into a review stand during a military parade marking the first anniversary of the coup that brought General Malloum to power.
The Chad National Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for the attack and has threatened to stage large scale actions in the future.
The Liberation Front claims to control much of eastern Chad.
So far there has been no official statement on any arrests being made over the incident.
