SYNOPSIS: It took West Germany, playing in white, only five minutes to open the scoring.Carl-Heinz Rummenigge heading in at the near post.
Fourteen minutes later Rummenigge, European footballer of the year, added a simple second.
Relentless West German pressure brought a corner on the right. From the cross centre forward Klaus Fischer headed home.
The outclassed Albanians hardly managed to get out of their own half and went further behind when Manfred Kaltz scored from close range.
Rummenigge completed his first half hat trick with a headed goal.
The home side took only eight second-half minutes to add a sixth when Pierre Littbarski's free kick was deflected in.
In the sixty-seventh minute the midfield player was tripped in the Albanian penalty area.
Paul Breitner made no mistake with the resulting spot kick.
Despite their seven-goal advantage West Germany continued to attack in strength.Breitner's cross from the right was turned in by Fischer to complete an enjoyable evening for the home crowd.
In Belfast, Northern Ireland needed only a point against low-ranked Israel to qualify for the finals for the first time since 1958.Midway through the first half a free kick from Jimmy Nicholl was nodded down in the Israeli penalty area for Gerry Armstrong to score. It was the only goal of the evening and ensured Northern Ireland a place at next year's World Cup in Spain.
