Background: In France, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz has accused the United States of siding with Iran and said this would encourage Iran to prolong the Gulf war. Mr. Aziz was in France for talks with President Giscard D'Estaing--his second visit to the country in the last seven weeks.

SYNOPSIS: Mr. Aziz told reporters after conferring for more than an hour with French President Giscard D'Estaing that Iraq was convinced from the outset of the conflict with Iran that there was a link between the United States and Iran. Mr. Aziz would not comment on when he thought the war with Iran would end and denied that he had discussed the question of arms supplies with the French President, although France is Iraq's second largest arms supplier after the Soviet Union.
