Background: Accompanied by his wife, Russian Premier Khrushchev visited the Austrian nationalised iron and steel plant at Linz, 4 July. The steel workers gave him a polite but undemonstrative welcome as he toured the workshops. He saw a demonstration of the new "LD" oxygen method of steel making, claimed to be 19 per cent cheaper than the former method, and said to be producing purer steel.
Earlier, during a morning stroll through Linz, he met an old friend, Mrs. Tatiana Flavickaja - a woman he knew in the Caucasus 30 years ago - who had been making fruitless attempts to get through his police guard to see him. After she had produced a picture of herself she was asked to come through the guard. They embraced and kissed and talked happily for visit Russia to witness its development over the last 30 years.
