TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 2): REPORTERS: " Good morning...early start this morning...Mr. Faulkner how do you feel about your chances, Mr. Faulkner?"

FAULKNER: "I have remained silent in this matter since the contest for the premiership started...my silence will be maintained until the result comes out later?"

REPORTER: "Do you feel confident Sir?"

FAULKNER: "I break my practice, and say yes, absolutely!"

TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 3): REPORTERS: "Good morning sir. How are you feeling this morning sir?"

CHICHESTER-CLARK: "Very well, thank you very much."

TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 4): REPORTERS: "Do you think you've got the support of the grass roots of this party Mr. Craig?"

CRAIG: "I don't think there's any doubt about that. I'm going in to speak to the people of Ulster."

TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 7): LEADER OF THE HOUSE: "I have to announce the result of the vote of the parliamentary party meeting held this morning to elect a new leader of the Unionist parliamentary Party. There were, as you know, two candidates...Mr. Craig and Mr. Faulkner. The voters cast in favour of Mr. Craig were four....the votes cast in favour of Mr. Faulkner were 26, and I therefore, at the meeting, declared Mr. Faulkner elected."

TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 9): FAULKNER: "I'd like just to say a word or two to you, and then briefly, as I understand time's limited, I'll answer a question or two but I'm afraid we'll have to be brief. (PAUSE) I hope that through you I'm perhaps speaking to a larger outside world. I regard it as my most important single aim to restore confidence to the entire community in Northern Ireland, because I'm utterly convinced that without that restoration of confidence, all else is futile."
