THE SOLDIER, 19-YEAR-OLD TROOPER ERIC BRIDGE, WAS THE NEPHEW OF THE RHODESIAN SECRETARY OF DEFENCE, MR ELDON TROLLIP.

TROOPER RIDGE WAS REPORTED KILLED ON TUESDAY (19 MARCH) AS RHODESIAN SECURITY FORCES, BACKED UP WITH STRAFING JET FIGHTERS AND HELICOPTERS, WERE HUNTING THE BAND OF INFILTRATORS IN THICK THORN BUSH COUNTRY IN THE ZAMBESI VALLEY AND ESCARPMENT.

THE ORIGINAL STRENGTH OF THE BAND WAS ESTIMATED AT 65 BUT LATEST ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM SALISBURY CLAIM THAT 17 INFILTRATORS HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE NUMBER OF THOSE CAPTURES HAS NEVER BEEN DISCLOSED.
