Background: The largest demonstration yet held in protest against the British Government's proposed Immigration Bill took place in London today (Sunday). After assembling at Hyde Park, 5,000 coloured immigrants from Asian, African, and Caribbean countries, marched to Downing Street to hand in a petition of protest at the Prime Minister's residence.
The Bill, which is not yet law, defines more specifically than in the past those Commonwealth citizens who may settle in Britain, and includes a "patrial" clause which the demonstrators feel discriminates against coloured people.
