Background: Tracy Austin of the United States bet two-times Wimbledon Champion Martina Navratilova in the final of Emeron Women's Tennis Tournament in Tokyo last Sunday (16 December). Austin won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

SYNOPSIS: Navratilova serving to Austin in the first set -- it took the young American less than an hour to overwhelm Navratilova.

Austin unsettled her opponent early on in the match. She broke the Wimbledon Champion's service in the first game, and again in this, the fifth in this, the fifth game.

Tracy Austin fought hard, and this marvellous cross court volley won her the second service break to bring her to a commanding 4-1 lead in the first set.

Austin went on to win the first set by six games to two. In the second set, Navratilova was equally unable to cope. She managed to win just 18 points.

St at 1-5 in the second set, Navratilova serves to stay in the match.

But a misjudged return gave Tracy Austin the match and her fourth successive win over Martina Navratilova.

Austin received a cheque for 100,000 dollars for her win, but Navratilova did not leave empty handed either: she picked up 50,000 dollars for second place.
