Background: Besides the University of Brazil, which is sponsored by Brazil's federal government, several others exist. At Rio, there is the University of Rio, presently about to be taken over by the city government. The procedure, has of course, to be OKed by Rio's city council, and this has been dragging and dragging, with nothing settled as yet.
Students from Rio's University's medical school, decided to start a peaceful (at least once) demonstration, in front of Rio's city council, in order to demonstrate against the delay of counselors to vote in favor of the school being taken over by the city government, thus providing free studying.
Medic students rigged up camping tents, for they intended to live right there as long as the matter was not cleared by the council. A small doctors office was also rigged up, and hundreds of passers by received small medical care and advice, especially pressure measurings, and other minor services, as they were performed by not-yet doctors.
As the medical school had been closed down by it's dean, awaiting decision of the City council, students also performed classroom attendings at the same demonstration spot, that is, in front of Rio's city council, arguing that they could not afford interruption of studies, as oncoming examinations had not yet been postponed. (they were postponed later).
Up to the time of this writing, no decision had been reached by the council, and student's demonstration is going on.
