Deputy Prime Minister Yigael Yadin, interviewed by Paul Davies.
Yadin: I've just spoken to the Prime Minister obviously very pleased. We here as Israeli's, citizens and members of the government are very proud. They both deserved the recognition.
Davies: How will it influence the peace process?
Yadin: Positively. The fact that President Sadat and PM Begin were awarded the Peace Prize means both have contributed, and being awarded the prize means they have done more than any other two people in order to reach peace.
Davies: How will Israeli public take the news?
Yadin: Proud most will think President Sadat deserved it for his determination and bold action. It was quite a step for him to carry on with the Peace talks despite all the criticism from the Arab countries. It was he who came up with the counterpeace proposal which actually paved the way for the understanding reached up until now. I thin both deserve it very well.
