Background: Third day of the Duke
of Edinburgh's Indian tour was filmed by Visnews on Jan 23 as he made a
whirlwind visit to the cities of Jaipur and Agra.

Piloting his own 'Heron' plane from Delhi, the Duke flew 160 miles east to
Jaipur airport where he was met by the Governor of Rajastham, Mr. Gurmukh Nihal
Singh and the Maharajah of Jaipur and his third wife. As he was driven from the
airport to the palace in one of the maharajah's sleek American convertible cars,
the Prince glimpsed both poverty and splendour in Jaipur ("City of the Red
Rose"). So pressing were the crowds in the main streets, that police had to use
hosepipes to maintain order and clear a route for the car. At the Palace, the
Maharajah, presented the Duke with a valuable Indian dagger with a jade and ruby
handle from his fabulous collection and jewellery. The Duke made an extensive
tour of the Palace and grounds where he saw the Maharajah's retinue of
    elephants.

From Jaipur, the Duke flew to Agra, but because of fog earlier that morning the
Duke had cancelled his visit to the ruined city of Fateehpur Sikira and flew low
    over it instead.

At Agra, he drove straight to the Taj Mahal just late enough to see it under a
full moon. Wearing overshoes, he explored the interior and stood for some time
on the terrace overlooking the Jumna River.

The following day, Jan 24, the Duke visited the tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daula before
driving in an open car to Agra Fort. Here he walked through this ancient fort,
built of red sandstone, and stood in the octagonal tower to inspect the
    blackstone throne.

His Royal Highness arrived in New Delhi Jan 21 to begin a 36,000 mile Asian and
Pacific tour. His itinerary includes visits to Pakistan, Singapore, Sarawak,
North Borneo, Hong Kong the Solomon-Gilbert-Ellice and Christmas Islands. Panama
and West Indies, 19,700 miles by air and 16,300 aboard the Royal yacht
Britannia. He is scheduled to arrive back in Britain April 30.
