THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC HIS PRIME MINISTER, MR. ALY SABRY, GREETED MR. CHOU AT THE AIRPORT, AND REMAINED TALKING WITH HIM FOR THE BRIEF STAY.

    IN CAIRO, MR. CHOU GAVE AN INTERVIEW WITH THE WEEKLY MAGAZINE "AL MUSSAWAR" DURING WHICH HE SAID THAT CHINA DID NOT WANT TO INVOLVE THE SOVIET UNION IN THE EVENT OF SINO-AMERICAN HOSTILITIES. HE SAID CHINA'S INTENTION WAS TO "RESIST AMERICAN IMPERIALIST AGGRESSION WITHOUT INVOLVING THE SOVIET UNION". "AL MUSSAWAR" QUOTED MR CHOU AS SAYING: "IN A FEW DAYS THE VIETNAMESE PEOPLE WILL TEACH THE AGGRESSORS A LESSON WHICH THEY WILL NEVER FORGET".

    DECORATED ARCHES, FLAGS, AND PORTRAITS HAVE BEEN PREPARED IN DAR-ES-SALAAM FOR THE VISIT OF MR. CHOU WHICH BEGINS TODAY. PRESIDENT NYERERE WILL BE AT THE AIRPORT TO WELCOME THE CHINESE PRIME MINISTER. THERE WILL BE A STATE BANQUET TONIGHT AND TOMORROW A MASS RALLY WILL BE HELD IN MR. CHOU'S HONOUR. ON SUNDAY, HE IS EXPECTED TO FLY TO ZANZIBAR FOR FURTHER CEREMONIES.

    THE VISIT TO TANZANIA SHOULD HAVE TAKE PLACE LAST YEAR, BUT WAS A POSTPONED BECAUSE OF THE ARMY MUTINY. A FRESH INVITATION WAS EXTENDED AFTER PRESIDENT NYERERE'S VISIT TO CHINA IN FEBRUARY. THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT HAS MADE TRADE AND AID GESTURES TOTALLING GBP16 MILLION WHILE MILITARY ADVISERS HAVE BEEN ASSISTING IN THE TRAINING OF THE TANZAN ARMY.
