Background: A new world water speed record for boats in the 1,200-kilogramme class was set up by Norman H.Buckley, a 51-year-old Manchester solicitor, on Lake Windermere July 25.
Norman Buckley averaged 120.61 mph over one kilometre in his speedboat "Miss Windermere III" to beat by three mph the previous record held by an Italian.
The record breaker now holds four world water speed records for this class of boat.
He told reporters: "This is as far as we can go with Miss Windermere III in her present form. I hope to have a new boat designed and built ready for next year."
