TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ. 1): U THANT: "The death of Ralph Bunche this morning is a very grave loss to the United Nations, to his country, to all his many friends the world over, and especially to those of us in the United Nations who knew and worked with him. I remember particularly his qualities of mind and character, his unshakable integrity, his indefatigable and selfless sense of responsibility, his extraordinary ability as a negotiator and advisor, his unfailing insight into the tangled affairs of mankind, his sense of the importance of human dignity, his determination in the face of all odds, to do whatever he could for justice and peace in the world, and above all his kindness, his humour, and deep compassion."
