Background: The World Council of Churches' Executive Committee met in Sofia earlier this month at the invitation of the Bulgarian Government.

Delegates attending the conference travelled from Holland, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, India, Indonesia, New Zealand Sweden and Switzerland.

SYNOPSIS: Members of the Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches met in Bulgaria earlier this month after accepting an invitation from the Bulgarian Government. Soon after arrival, the members had visited the temple-museum "Alezander Nevsky" before beginning their meeting. Delegates attending the session, which was scheduled to last from September the 7th until the 10th, were from the Soviet Union, Holland, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland. The World Council of Churches Executive Committee agreed on common policies to be adopted in their general meetings. The agreements included the reaffirmation of the struggle for nuclear disarmament and the peaceful settlement of all conflicts in the world today, including the war in Indo-China and the conflict in the Middle East. The delegates also endorsed their stand against racial discrimination. Other world problems were also discussed at the opening session as part of a busy itinerary.
