TRANSCRIPT: SHRAR: "The Security Council resolution about Jerusalem looks again and again that the United Nations understands more than at any time before that Israel which is neglecting every time such resolutions looks as israel is going to the end in refusing to give any opportunity for instance for peace in the Middle East. Because of Jerusalem which is the capital of the Moslems, the capital of the Christians, the capital of the jews, must give back to the Arabs who proved during the last centuries that they can make facilities for all the religions to be in the sort of conditions to be free, to move freely to have a better situation in the future. Israel proved that it cannot give such opportunity. Jerusalem is under the occupation of Israel. That means that there is not any kind of opportunity for peace all the time that Israel is occupying Jerusalem and occupying the other Palestinian lands. The fastest way for peace means that Israel has to withdraw from occupied territories especially from Jerusalem. Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel. Jerusalem is our city and it must be so until from here to eternity. We proved that we can protect Jerusalem while Israel is (INDISTINCT) the land of Jerusalem and continuing attempts to make it a Jewish city. We have this right we must continue our struggle to release this religious city to enable all the Moslems, Christians and Jews to be free in this Arabic city."

Background: Palestinian guerrilla leaders have welcomed the Security Council's call to Israel to rescind measures to annex East Jerusalem and declare the unified holy city its capital. The Council voted fourteen to one on Monday (30 June) to reaffirm earlier calls for Israel's withdrawal from Arab territories it has occupied since the 1967 war. Palestinian Liberation Organisation executive committee member Majed Abu Shrar says the fastest way to peace in the Middle East is for Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories.

SYNOPSIS: Meanwhile Mustafa Jaffal the official spokesman for the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine said the front had inflicted casualties on Israeli soldiers and killed an Israeli counter-intelligence agent known as Moshe Golan in recent fighting.

During recent weeks Israeli commandos have launched a series of raids into southern Lebanon. Israeli gunboats have shelled targets on the southern coast and on June 30 the Israeli military claimed that several Palestinian guerrillas were killed during a raid. The raids angered the front-line Arab states and they have been trying to pressure israel through the United Nations. On Wednesday United Nations Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim received a request to convene an emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the Palestine question. The request came soon after Israel announced it would go ahead with its plans for Arab East Jerusalem in defiance of the Security Council.
