Background: The population of Alma-Ata, capital of Kazakhstan, gave Nikita Khruschev a warm welcome. The Prime Minister attended the Republic's agricultural conference, declared open by the Republic's first Sec. of the Central Committee of the Communist Party - Kunaev. The delegates discussed ways and means to put into practice the decisions of the January Plenum of the Central Committee of the Party. N. Khrushchev was presented with a baby lamb-to show that the Republic's livestock will grow as fast as the lamb. A guest from Uzbekistan farm chairman Khvan, brought with him this giant cron stalk.
Prime Minister Khrushchev made a long speech at the conference. At the last session N. Khrushchev was presented with a medal "For Conquering Virgin Lands"... a medal awarded to heroes of Virgin land settlements.
