Background: A recent visit to a Swiss forest...and a novel way for forestry guards to scale a tree very speedily but with complete safety. Equipment - attached to the climber's feet - consists of "pedals" add steel "adjustable hoops".
The sprung hoops, encircling the tree, hold the climber in position and the pedals give a firm grip on the tree-trunk.
As the foot is raised, the spring round the tree assists the forestry guard to raise h is leg upwards. With this device he "cycles" up the tree-trunk at great speed.
This original Swiss idea is a great aid to the forest guards in their task of cutting off branches to control the growth of the trees.
