    Background: The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Michael Ramsey presided over a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday to ordain Malaysia's new bishop, the venerable John Gurubatham Savarimuthu. Archbishop Ramsey, head of the Anglican Church, is currently touring several Asian countries.

    The ceremony was attended by various religious ministers and relatives of the new bishop. It was the first time permission had been granted to film the ceremony.

    The climax of the ordination came when the Archbishop placed his hand on the head of the new bishop while intoning the consecration prayers.

    Bishop Sevarimuthu's diocese will be West Malaysia.
