    Background: The 28th international boxing championship organised by the International Military Sports Council has ended in Accra, Ghana.

    SYNOPSIS: The most successful nation in the tournament was Zambia, which won three gold and three silver medals. The United States, with two golds, two silver and two bronze finished second. The final of the lightweight contest has between Lawrence Obagoriola of Nigeria, fighting in the Number 16 vest, and Rashad Zaki of Egypt in the striped number 60.

    Another Egyptian boxer, Mahmoud Rakman, took the gold medal in the bantamweight division, wile four other Egyptians won bronze medals.

    At the end of the lightweight contest between Obagoriola and Zaki, the Egyptian was unanimously awarded the bout by the five judges.

    The gold medal awarded to Zaki for his win put Egypt third overall in the championship.

    In the light-middleweight division, the final was between intlekofer Markus of West Germany in the white pants, and Dawuda Mohammed of Ghana, in the number eight vest.

    Altogether 150 boxers from 15 countries took part in the eight-day championship. The award for the tournament's best boxer went to Zambian captain, Loti Mwala. Mwala won all his fights in the middleweight division inside the distance.

    The light-middleweight final went the full distance of three rounds, but at the end Ghanaian Mohammed received a unanimous points decision.

    Mohammed was one of two Ghanaian boxers to receive gold medals. The other was light-heavyweight Mamah Mohammed.

    Other boxers to win golds were light-welterweight Obisia Nwakpa of Nigeria, and Reinhard Skricek of West Germany in the welterweight division.
