Background: Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat arrived in Qatar from the United Arab Emirates on Monday (31 March). Mr. Arafat has been touring the Gulf States to brief Arab leaders on the outcome of his talks in India last week (29 March).
SYNOPSIS: The PLO leader and Qatar's ruler Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad al Thani met for talks at the Palace of Doha. The two men discussed the PLO stand on current developments in the Arab-Israeli conflict, and Mr. Arafat's three-day official visit to India. In Qatar Yasser Arafat strongly attacked the United States for allegedly amassing ships and troops in the Gulf, claiming they constituted a danger to the region and affected the security of Arab nations. He urged Arab states to organise a dialogue between themselves and confront what he described as a conspiracy against the Arab and Palestinian people.
