Background: Residents of Milton, Florida, in the United States, are struggling against destructive floods which have inundated the city. They've been trying to salvage their belongings from the water that invaded their homes.
The floods are the result of a 16-inch rainfall triggered by thunderstorms which hit the area last week. The waters of the Blackwater River near Milton, Florida, began climbing and on Thursday morning (31 July) they were 18 inches above flood-stage only three hours after the rainfall began. The downtown area was knee-deep in water when the food crest reached three foot and many businesses were protected by sandbags while streets and highways were underwater.
