Background: MORE THAN 900 INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES FROM 41 COUNTRIES ARE EXHIBITING PRODUCTS AT THE 15TH WEST BERLIN INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION WHICH OPENS TODAY (SATURDAY). THE UNITED STATES, BRITAIN, ITALY, AUSTRIA AND THE NETHERLANDS ALL HAVE REPRESENTATIVES AT THE EXHIBITION, BUT FOR THE SECOND YEAR RUNNING FRANCE IS A NOTICEABLE ABSENTEE.

DR. FRITZ BERG, PRESIDENT OF THE WEST GERMAN FEDERATION OF INDUSTRIES IN HIS OPENING SPEECH WARNED WESTERN COUNTRIES NOT TO ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE PLAYED OFF AGAINST ONE ANOTHER. GERMAN INDUSTRY , SAID DR BERG, REGARDED WITH SOME ANXIETY AND COOLING OFF OF RELATIONS BETWEEN FRANCE AND WEST GERMANY. HE ADDED THAT SUCH A STATE OF AFFAIRS "WOULD BE DISASTROUS".

A SPECIAL SHOW, "PARTNERS IN PROGRESS" WILL FEATURE THE PRODUCTS OF 20 LATIN-AMERICAN COUNTRIES, WHILE ANOTHER NEW ITEM IS AN "AFRO-ASIAN SALES AND INFORMATION EXHIBITION" IN WHICH 14 AFRO-ASIAN COUNTIES ARE TAKING PART. THE STANDARD OF PRODUCTS IS VERY HIGH, AND THE DISPLAY ARRANGEMENTS SHOW THAT CONSIDERABLE TIME AND THOUGHT HAVE GONE INTO HIS "SHOP WINDOW".
