Background: Under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Chairman Mao Tse-tung and the North China Bureau of the party Central Committee, commune members in the suburbs of Peking have planted more summer crops this year after overcoming the serious drought. The crops are coming along very well and a big increase in yield is in prospect.
The year expects a bumper wheat harvest.
Carrying forward the glorious tradition of a people's army in being a work force as well as a combat force and following instructions of the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao Tse-tung, fighters and officers of the People's Liberation Army stationed in Peking have been helping commune members harvest the wheat in fields close to their quarters or in communes and production teams where wheat is planted over vast areas.
The fighters and officers engaged in the harvest are constantly mindful of putting politics in the fore, studying Chairman Mao's Works and propagating Mao Tse-tung's thought among the commune members.
Songs in praise of Mao Tse-tung's thought are performed by the armymen during breaks.
This spirit of the officers and fighters wins warm applause from the suburban peasants.
Good harvest have also been reaped on most of the wheat fields in Honan Province. At Po Ai State Farm in Hsin-Hsiang Administrative Region, more than 8,000 mu of wheat have been brought in.
The severest drought in 70 years was experienced here in the sowing stage of the wheat. The bumper harvest was reaped because the workers and staff held high the great, red banner of Mao Tse-tung's thinking, studied Chairman Mao's Works en masse, built water conservancy projects and levelled the land in a revolutionary spirit.
The workers and staff of this farm are resolved to go right on in putting politics in the fore, to harvest and thresh the crop with meticulous care and sell the best grain to the state as their contribution to the country's Socialist construction.
