Background: A group of 94 Indians expelled from Uganda arrived in Bobay on Tuesday (3 October) in the S.S. 'Karanja'. They had little money with them, and told of constant harassment by Ugandan troops, who also stole most of their valuables... and punished at bayonet point anyone found trying to hide currency.
Two on board the ship were British passport holders, and the rest had Indian documents. These are the forerunners of many thousands of Ugandan-based Indians who will be returning in days to come, of which at least 10,000 are British passport holders.
