Background: Britain's top driver Jackie Stewart returned to winning form in the South African Grand Prix on Saturday. Stewart was confirmed as victor only after an inquiry and a reprimand for allegedly ignoring two warning flags in his Tyrrel Ford.
Stewart was said to have ignored the flags -- banning overtaking -- after a three-car collision on lap three. The objection was lodged by the McLaren team, for whom American Peter Ravson took second place.
Four laps after the crash, Stewart took the led and held it throughout the 79-lap race. Ravson was 24 seconds behind at the finish. Defending world champion Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil finished third.
